Abundant Life Advent Challenge: Day 12

Are you feeling the slump? You’re at the hump, if you get past today, you’re rocking this challenge. No shame or condemnation if you haven’t completed each day. If you’re reading this and haven’t done well so far, make today your day. Take it scavenger hunt-style and grab one item from each area. Here’s a quick recap:

Day 1 - messiest area

Day 2 - second dreaded area

Day 3 - jewelry

Day 4 - countertops

Day 5 - spice rack

Day 6 - games/toys/puzzles

Day 7 - pantry

Day 8 - pens

Day 9 - t-shirts

Day 10 - books

Day 11 - fridge and freezer

For today, it’s time to go back to your messiest, most dreaded space. Take twelve items from this space and drop them in the box. Just count. Don’t overthink. An easy way to help you decide about any item throughout this #abundantlifeadvent challenge is to associate time with the item. Have you used it in the last year? If the item is not seasonal, will you use it in the next six months?

This next question is one I find most useful when cleaning out my messiest area, my closet. Would you pack it for a trip? If you’re like me and struggle with your closet, you can save this post and come back to it in the New Year to tackle this area in depth using this question and exercise. You can pretend to pack for four trips. One for each season, different activities tied to seasons, or different activities you participate in regularly. For example, I could pack for two hiking trips—cooler weather and for summer, a Beach Writing Retreat (annual event), a book tour, and a work trip. Anything that doesn’t make the suitcase, could mean it’s time to part with them. They are likely the items that never are selected. The ones that hang in the back of the closet with good intentions but aren’t the go-to favorites. It may be time to part with them.

Hopefully, the packing exercise doesn’t distract you from your challenge for today—discard twelve items from your messiest area.

Make it happen today with the BIG 12! You can do this! I believe in you!

Snap pics or do a quick video to show you are in the challenge and then post regularly to hold yourself accountable. #abundantlifeadvent
